Physiotherapy that takes you from injured to performance

What separates Cast Iron Rehab from what you normally think of as physiotherapy is that we use a “return to play” or “return to performance” model.

This means we can help you return to your sport or activity quickly and efficiently while taking into account your specific injury or circumstances and can help you with a plan of action to get you back to full fitness.

We can also help you maintain fitness/ performance while we rehabilitate your injury, this is not just Physiotherapy this is Full Performance Sports Physiotherapy, giving you access to the same quality of Physiotherapy/ Rehabilitation as seen in professional sports.

I’ve been seeing Ali Inglis for a few phyisio issues over the last couples of years and can’t say enough good things about his approach. He’s the first person I recommend to my athletes whether amateur, professional or enthusiasts. Ali’s method quickly assesses the problem then gets straight to work to rectify it.

I recently made an appointment with Ali as I was suffering from back pain during pregnancy. Back pain is something I have had on and off since I was much younger and had attended an Osteopath regularly for much of my adult life. This time I decided to try a different route as the previous fixes were always short term (6 weeks) and never sustainable.

Ali was quickly able to bust the myths I believed were the route of my back pain and give me honest feedback on what my issues were and how to address them. The solutions he proposed were all things I have been able to carry forward into my later stages of pregnancy and more importantly, the impact has lasted longer than 6 weeks! He turned around my plan quickly and gave practical advice on how to self manage my issues going forward. I would recommend a visit for lasting solutions!

IN PERSON APPOINTMENTS WHAT TO EXPECT

  1. First we will discuss your Pain/ Injury and produce a detailed history of the problem, how this is affecting you and discuss your goals and what you wish to get back to/ achieve with the help of Physiotherapy
  2. We will then go through a routine Physiotherapy assessment specific to the area and potential areas the pain/ injury is coming from to identify the exact problem that you are having, this assessment will be informed by the history we discussed initially.
  3. If Required- a full Strength and Conditioning/ Sport Specific based assessment will be conducted. This part of the assessment gets you in the Gym and tests you at a higher level of performance to identify any sport specific issues that may only affect you when performing sport specific tasks or when pushing yourself through sport or exercise. The process is underpinned with Physiotherapy Knowledge but taken up a level to help to identify any issues you may be having when performing at higher levels.
  4. A discussion will take place which will inform you exactly what the problem is, how to fix it, recovery timeframes and if needed- how to continue to exercise or work around the issue.
  5. A plan detailing the issue and what was discussed/ found during our assessment with a Individualised Plan showing how to fix the problem will be sent to you

WHERE WILL MY APPOINTMENT BE?

Your appointment will take place in Cast-Iron Strength Gym. I am fully geared up for properly assessing Sport- Injuries and my environment reflects this. You will be assessed in the Gym, don’t expect a regular Physiotherapy Clinic that only has a few resistance bands, yoga mats and 2kg Dumbbells, you will be surrounded by Barbells, Squat Racks and Weight Plates with all the Strength and Conditioning based equipment you could need.

The way I see it-

Regular Physiotherapist= Works from Clinic

Sports Physiotherapist= Works from Gym

The Gym is Located in Leith in Edinburgh in the Swanfield Industrial Estate Just opposite Leith Community Treatment Centre

DO YOU SEE NON-SPORTING INJURIES

Yes, Absolutely. I trained within the NHS initially and am very Experienced with Non-Sporting Populations also. I also see non-Sporting populations/ Injuries regularly at Cast Iron Rehab and am more than happy to help. A regular physiotherapy assessment is at the core of all Assessments I do, we do not need to do the sport- specific gym based stuff  if it does not fit in with your goals. However all my assessments will still take place within Cast Iron Strength Gym and I do take an active exercise based rehabilitation approach with all my clients.

DO YOU DO MASSAGE, ACUPUNCTURE OR ANY KIND OF PASSIVE THERAPY?

No I run a sports injury clinic not a spa, Many of these spa based type treatments have a poor evidence base and many of the benefits are hugely overstated. These sort of treatments provide short term pain relief benefits only and my goal is to get to the heart of your issue and make myself irrelevant as quickly as possible, and to get you pain free long-term and to stop the pain from coming back. My goal is not to sell you one side fits all spa treatments with temporary effects that you need to keep booking in for to sustain. I am here to fix your issue not sell you quick fixes with temporary results.

CAN MY INSURANCE PAY?

It depends on your Policy, I can send you an invoice and some Insurance Providers will accept this and allow you to claim the money back from them. However, I have not signed up with any Insurance Company to accept their referrals so cannot take any insurance policy numbers as payment.

Ali was recommended to me by a very good friend/coach who informed me there was no other person in the country he would go to for rehabilitation other than Ali, I now also stand by this statement. Being a coach and gym owner I recommend everyone who walks through the door to him. Once my clients have seen Ali I am sent a full breakdown of their assessment and full rehabilitation programming to follow. This man is at the top of his field and there is really no need to see anyone else, thanks again mate!

I’ve been to Alistair for two different injuries, and the service I’ve received has been fantastic. He listened, alleviated the concerns I had and was clear in his explanation of my injuries. He understood my training demands as a powerlifter and a cyclist and he worked to adapt my existing training to ensure I could continue to progress whilst working around the injuries. I’ve seen great progress with his guidance, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend his services.
