I am currently listening to the audio-book “Why we get fat and what to do about it” by Gary Taubes. I am currently about 60% the way through the book and have thoroughly enjoyed it thus far it provides a well grounded counter point to the current main stream thinking about diet and weight loss. These ideas will not be new to some but they are presented so well in this book that is easily well worth a look. Gary was recently interviewed for the weekly podcast Skepticality you can listen to the interview here .
In 2008 Gary also presented a lecture which is 1 hour and 11 minutes in length but provides figures which helps to illuminate a lot of his points this lecture can be viewed here.
This book sets out the argument that obesity is not so much a disease of excess but a by product of malfunctions in the regulation of adipose tissue. These malfunctions have their basis in endocrinology and not in psychology as current mainstream thinking may have it.
He lays out some pretty compelling and interesting arguments which are more than worth a look.
